Flooding can make Littleworth Road and Hare Green impassable for pedestrians

ERA campaign for Littleworth Road footpath and drainage.

When it rains it is a horrid experience walking across Hare Green to the bus stop in Milbourne Lane. One cannot walk on the grass that has become soft mud and the road quickly becomes flooded as well as being dangerous due to the increasing volume of traffic. Passing cars spray the pedestrian and many drivers resent having to slow down as they rush by even women with children and pushchairs.

For 18 months the ERA have been discussing the problem with Elmbridge Borough Council - Commons Department who agree there is a need to improve drainage and provide a safe hard footpath but say they only have funds for part of the work. A sketch of the council’s suggested solution is shown.

We understand that the road, that has only recently been resurfaced, is about to be dug up for gas main work. It would be great if this could be used as an opportunity to correct the drainage and provide the much needed footpath. ERA hopes that the many people affected will write to the council to stress the importance of these improvements.
